LIVEABOARD:
The 4 dayLiveaboard Open Water Course is designed so that you can stay overnight on the reef. You will take 2 days of pool and theory training, followed by a 2 day/ 1 night trip to the Great Barrier Reef aboard M.V. Kangaroo Explorer. You complete your 4 training dives and one dive as a certified diver.
Both courses provide you with the theoretical skill and the practical skill that you require to dive anywhere in the world.
Your professional instructor will help you through the learning process. Each new skill gets you closer to the day you board our boat for your liveaboard dive trip. Your open water dive course is split up into three sections.
Theory gives you the knowledge required to dive in open water conditions. This takes the form of classroom presentations and lectures by the instructor in the comfort of our new air-conditioned classrooms.
Confined water training takes place in our gas-heated pool at our state of the art diver training centre, during which time you will master the skills of diving.
At Cairns Dive Centre, the emphasis is on increased training in actual dive conditions. The basis of our training concept is thorough practice of scuba skills in the controlled environment of our new diver training centre. These skills combined with the understanding of safe diving practices and theory, prepare you for the ultimate Great Barrier Reef experience.

Professional instructors will help you through the learning process, and offer you extra pool sessions to build your self confidence if needed. Each new skill gets you closer to the day you board our catamaran MV Kangaroo Explorer for your liveaboard dive trip.
Your Open Water course is split into three sections:
1. Theory (in air-conditioned classrooms)
2. Confined water training (in our state of the art Diver Training Centre)
3. Open water diving (aboard the MV Kangaroo Explorer)
You will see a vast array of hard and soft corals, great drop-offs, exciting walls and swim-throughs. Experience the unbelievable thrill of Night Diving on the Great Barrier Reef. Sumptuous meals are prepared by our experienced chefs. Spend the evening relaxing in the Lounge Bar or out on deck to see the brilliant night sky.
We also operate MV Reef-Kist for day trips and snorkelling. If you choose our 4 day budget dive course, you will do 2 day trips aboard this vessel.
See also our 5 day course if you wish to stay out on the liveaboard boat longer. On the 5 Day Liveaboard Course you will complete 4 training dives and 5 certified dives (4 of which are day dives and one night dive.)
Day 1 and Day 2 - pool and theory in Cairns at our Training Centre
Day 3 and Day 4 - The 4 training dives are done on our liveaboard boat, MV Kangaroo Explorer. Added bonus, one certified dive.
Day 1 of course pick up time at CBD accommodation or start time at the CDC Dive Shop will be 8:00 am.
Departs: Course begins on Monday or Friday each week (we will start a course with 2 people) - first two days are pool and theory then we transfer you out to the liveaboard boat on board M.V. Reef Kist. Reefkist departs daily at 7.30am from Cairns Marlin Marina. Courtesy shuttle bus picks up from 6:45am from Cairns City accommodation - included free of charge!
Returns: You will return roughly 5pm on the second day of the liveaboard.
